Xbox Gamercard updated for Silverlight 2 Beta 2

Xbox Friends Watch Gamercard

After a few changes the Xbox Friends Watch Gamercard now runs on Beta 2.  The few changes I had to make included

  • updating the project file in Visual Studio to match Beta 2
  • Adding System.Net as a reference since the WebClient class has moved there
  • Changing Storyboard.GetClockState to AnimationInstance.GetCurrentState to match the API update.
  • Moving from ToolTips to the ToolTipService on the HyperlinkButtons.
  • Changing MouseLeftButtonDown event handlers to handle the Click event on Buttons, now that MouseLeftButtonDown event no longer fire.
  • The final change had to do with adding a setting in the AppManifest.xml to allow the XAP to be hosted on a different server than the page its embedded on and still make the cross domain call.  Emil Stoychev has more detail about the X-Domain Scenario on SilverlightShow.

Get your own Gamercard on the script builder page.  Even if you already have the Gamercard on your page, you will still need to update your embed code to reflect the new changes.

Now to find the time to play the Xbox...

  3. Great work, however... All this use to work fine, the gamecard, sidebar gadget, and then suddenly, today, 09/07/08 (UK), it does not work, and the gamecard script hangs on "duncammackenzie.net".

When i google "duncammackenzie.net" i find this site which states "Service Unavailable".

Just want to know what's going on, i love using these gadgets. Thanks.

  4. Hi khan, Yes unfortunately Duncan's service (and whole site) appears down right now. I sent him an email, but unfortunately he's on vacation.

On my side I can do a better job handling the absent response. Now would be a good time to test it that code :).

  5. Thanks for the quick reply, thankfully Duncan's website is back, and so is the whole service, which means the gadgets are working too.

I also thought you would like to know of this website, http://patcavit.com/xbox-live-gadget/
It is created by a guy called Zilla Smash, and he has also created a xbox live vista gadget from your Xbox friend watch code and Duncan's Gamer Tag data REST webservice.

It is pretty nicely done on the UI side, the major advantage is the ability to hold more than 5 friends, however only displays online status, not offline.

I'm just sharing my google searches, thanks for reading.

Sweet little gadget here :) Love the look and feel of it, one thing, the current version seems to like to insist I install Silverlight (on 2 different Pcs running Vista Ultimate x64) even though I installed the Silverlight beta 2, it worked once and then after a restart it refues to on both PCs, any hints on how to fix it? I've tried installing the gadget again etc but no luck
