Scry Privacy Policy
Scry is built privacy-first. We don't want your data — we want the app to be useful while leaving as little trail as possible.
What we collect
Nothing on our servers. Scry has no backend account system, no analytics, no telemetry endpoint in this version. Your collection, your photos, and your activity stay on your phone.
What stays on your phone
- Your collection — every comic you save lives in an on-device SwiftData database in Scry's sandbox. We can't read it; iOS doesn't allow it.
- Your cover photos — Scry never writes captured photos to your camera roll. They are processed in memory and discarded after each identification. The only thing we keep is a small ~200px thumbnail per saved comic, also on-device.
- Your Anthropic API key — if you provide one, it's stored in the iOS Keychain on your device. We never see it.
What gets sent over the network
Only when you tap the shutter, and only if you've configured an Anthropic API key:
- The captured photo of the comic
- Anthropic's standard API request format
…is sent directly from your phone to Anthropic's servers using your API key. Scry is not in the middle of this connection. Your photo never touches a Scry server because there isn't one.
Anthropic's privacy practices for API usage are governed by their own Privacy Policy and Acceptable Use Policy. We have no agreement with Anthropic about your data — your API key is between you and them.
Catalog data (the bundled list of comic books with market ranges) is shipped inside the app and consulted entirely on-device. No network call to identify a book if our local catalog or on-device OCR / image-match can identify it.
What we don't do
- We don't collect your name, email, or any personal identifier.
- We don't collect your location.
- We don't track which screens you visit or how long you use the app.
- We don't have advertising partners.
- We don't sell, share, or rent any data because we don't have any.
Future changes
If we add anonymous usage telemetry in a future version (which books people scan, anonymized aggregated counts to help us prioritize catalog updates), we will:
- Disclose it in this policy before shipping it
- Make it opt-out controllable in Settings
- Collect only aggregate counts — no per-user history, no identifying info, no captured photos
You'll know before it happens.
Children
Scry isn't designed for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone, so this is academic, but please don't.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be reflected in the date above and disclosed in app update notes. Continued use of Scry after a change means you've accepted the new version.

Plain-language summary: Scry doesn't have a server. Your photos never leave your phone except when Scry calls Anthropic on your behalf using the key you provided. We don't see anything. There's nothing to leak.
